Q&A

Q&A with Savannah Jenje

"I know that I have a future because of His power in my life and that has been the greatest joy."

Savannah Jenje works as the food pantry manager for The Salvation Army in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she and her husband Munyaradzi attend their local corps. Her hobbies are hanging out with her husband, reading, crocheting, playing in the praise band, serving the Lord and watching baking shows but never actually baking anything.

01. How did you first become involved with The Salvation Army?

When I was first dating my husband, I would go to church with him, and eventually the Salt Lake City Corps became my new church home. I have been working for the corps since July of 2022 and I love my job!

02. What is your favorite event or program in The Salvation Army?

Obviously, I am a little biased toward the food pantry, but it is such an amazing ministry. Because of this service, I have seen families laugh for joy, cry for joy and jump for joy. I have seen children smile because they would have something to eat that night. I have gained as much as I have given and been blessed as much as I have blessed because of this ministry!

03. Who inspires you and why?

My biggest inspirations are my mom and dad. Their testimonies are my daily encouragement, and I couldn’t be anywhere in life without them. When I serve in the pantry or the church, I aim to serve the way they would!

04. What hobbies do you like to do?

My favorite hobby is hanging out with my husband! He is so fun, and we have the best adventures together! I like to curl up on the couch and read a book with a cup of tea while watching baking shows. I also play guitar and sing for the praise band on Sundays.

05. How do you spend time connecting with God?

Through journaling and music I feel connected and closer to God. If you come to my house you will probably hear worship music all the way down the block. Another way I like to spend time with God is by journaling. I love to spend time writing out my thoughts to God. He is my best friend and will always listen when I talk.

06. How does your faith influence your work and/or your everyday life?

Loving everyone who comes through our doors is challenging when I try to do it myself, but when I remember the love Christ has shown me, it gets easier. I try to let each interaction I have and each decision I make be based on what God is calling me to do.

07. What is your favorite Scripture verse and why?

Jeremiah 29:11 has followed me around my whole life. I love this verse because I know I can always trust the Lord’s plan for my life and when I am struggling, I can lean on Him to guide me. I have no fear because I know I will prosper.

08. What accomplishment are you most proud of?

I have battled mental health issues such as anxiety and depression for many years now. A few years ago, I experienced the healing power of God and He continues to strengthen and heal me each day. Each day there is small progress that I can look at and say, “This is God’s hand in my life.”

09. What are your hopes/goals for the future?

The only thing I want in life is to honor God as a good and faithful servant. My husband and I hope to build a house one day that can be filled with laughter, prayer, joy, peace, comfort and the love of God. We want to welcome people to a home where they belong as brothers and sisters in Christ.

10. What has been one of your biggest joys in following Jesus so far?

The hope of a future. At the times in my life when I was really struggling with my mental health, I didn’t see a future for me. But I found the healing touch of God and have been leaning on His strength and guidance ever since. I know that I have a future because of His power in my life and that has been the greatest joy, and one that I tell many people about.
